Welp. I have taken a bit of a blog hiatus the past few weeks.
I am still gathering photos from our Vintage Barn Sale (SUCH an epic success btw!) and will do a special post re-caping all the fun a bit later, but in the meantime, I have been waiting to do a post and/or series of posts on another one of my income streams: Poshmark.
It is the perfect compliment to my vintage resale business as I am still thrifting, still seeking out lost treasures and presenting them for sale to new homes and a second life!
Poshmark is an app that allows users to create a virtual and sell-able closet. Once you have created you closet, you can promote, share and sell items in your closet, follow other users and search for and buy discounted clothing from other closets. Most items listed on Poshmark are 60-70% off retail prices.
I started to list items in my closet as an alternative to consignment selling or a typical garage sale. I felt that even if I could get $3 profit for a shirt I was going to give away, that was better profit than a garage sale! So, I started taking pics, writing descriptions and listing items I had sitting in my closet.
Once I reached about 1k followers on the app (quite easy to do on Posh actually), I noticed more activity in my closet and sales started to follow.
After my first round experiment went well, I decided to up my Posh game and start re-selling thrifted clothing. I was already frequenting the thrift stores and garage sales 2-3x per week…why not swing through the clothing section now too?
I was making about $200 per month in the first few months of selling and am now averaging about $500-1k per month selling clothing out of my Poshmark closet.
Is it entrepreneurship? Yes. Is it thrifted? Yes. Is it vintage? Sometimes (there is a BIG market for vintage clothing on Posh!) Does it fit into my brand of thrifting, beautifying and entrepreneurship in the beautiful PNW? You betcha.
Luke and I are SHOCKED at how successful an income stream Posh has been. I will be adding more nitty gritty details and tips in following posts, but if you are at all interested learning more, feel free to contact me.
